MPs to question Sir Patrick Vallance as covid-19 cases climb

24 March 2022

The Science and Technology Committee will question Government Chief Scientific Adviser Sir Patrick Vallance in a wide-ranging hearing. The session will be an opportunity to probe the Government Chief Scientific Advisor on rising covid cases, the living with covid-19 plan, the lessons from the Omicron variant and the UK’s future vaccine strategy. The new office for Science and Technology Strategy and diversity and inclusion in STEM are among the other areas that are likely to be discussed.

In the first panel, MPs will question Professor Ann John, Co-Chair of the expert advisory group SPI-B on how behavioural science was used in modelling the Omicron wave of the pandemic, following criticism that models did not account for how people might self-regulate and change their behaviour in the run up to the 2021/22 festive period.

  • Professor Ann John, Swansea University and Chair, Scientific Pandemic Insights Group on Behaviours (SPI-B)
