Tidal power and the Severn

Non-inquiry session

The Severn Estuary Commission has recommended that the development of tidal range energy in the Severn Estuary has the potential to provide a clean, predictable source of energy and help meet the UK’s significant increase in electricity demand as part of its transition to Net Zero.

The Severn Estuary Commission, an independent commission established to examine the feasibility of developing tidal range energy in the Severn Estuary, has concluded that it is feasible and has the potential to contribute to the stability of the electricity grid. The Committee will examine the Commission's findings and the potential environmental and socioeconomic impacts of developing tidal range energy in the Severn Estuary.
