Smart meters

Non-inquiry session

Smart meters allow consumers to better manage their energy use and receive more accurate bills, while also helping to balance the grid. However, around 10% of smart meters do not work properly and the smart meter rollout has faced numerous challenges. In this one-off evidence session the Committee wishes to investigate the consumer experience with the smart meter rollout and issues around the underlying technology and regulation.
