The cost of energy

Inquiry

In October last year the Committee published its interim report on the high costs of energy in the UK making recommendations on how costs fall on consumers in the retail side of the sector.

In the second part of this inquiry, the Committee is looking at where costs arise in the system that result in higher costs to bill payers such as upgrades to the national electricity grid and building new sources of energy generation and how those costs could be reduced.  These costs constitute a growing part of the household bill.

The inquiry will also examine where the balance should be struck on where system and decarbonisation costs are placed, and how technology, in addition to behavioural changes, help balance supply and demand as we move to an era of renewable, clean energy generation.

This inquiry is no longer accepting evidence

The deadline for submissions was 5:00pm on 8 April 2025.
