Inquiry

The Women and Equalities Committee (WEC) held an oral evidence session in Parliament on Wednesday, 5 March to look at the prevalence and impact of female genital mutilation (FGM) in the UK and to examine the work of the UK Government to prevent FGM and to address the health consequences of survivors of FGM.

Following the publication of its report on Female genital mutilation and subsequent correspondence with the Government, the Committee will take evidence from Baroness Merron, Minister in the Department of Health and Social Care, and Professor Lucy Chappell, CEO of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). The session will focus on the Committee's recommendation to Government that it fund research into reconstructive surgery for survivors of FGM.
