Water quality and water infrastructure: follow-up

Non-inquiry session

The Environmental Audit Committee is planning an oral evidence session on 15th May 2024 on water quality and water infrastructure. The session will examine progress made by the Government, regulators and industry in taking steps to improve water quality in rivers since the Committee’s initial inquiry in 2021.

The Government has recently announced several measures to improve the performance of the water industry and to tackle water pollution. However, there remain several ongoing challenges in relation to water quality, water sufficiency and security, and water company performance and regulation.

The Committee expects to consider the implementation of Government plans, the effectiveness of new measures to clean up inland and coastal waters, and the adequacy of current water infrastructure in relation to climate change and climate adaptation.
