The environmental protection work of the Environment Agency

The Environmental Audit Committee will be hearing from the Chief Executive and Chair of the Environment Agency, who were recently appointed in 2023 and 2022 respectively. This follows the pre-appointment hearing of Alan Lovell as Chair on 5 July 2022.

During the one-off session, the Committee will review and explore the current challenges and opportunities facing the Environment Agency as the arms-length body seeks to enforce regulations intended to protect the environment. The Committee is likely to question the panellists on the performance of their monitoring and enforcement activities, their staffing and spend, and their role in contributing to the delivery of the Government’s Environmental Improvement Plan 2023.
