Following on from the Committee’s report on British International Investment (BII), published in September 2023, the main purpose of this session was to increase understanding of the role of other British Investment Partnerships in reducing the finance gap and supporting the UK to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Using three key finance instruments identified as case studies by the FCDO in the International Development White Paper, the Committee explored alternative financing options for international development by exploring the transformation of the development finance sector, the importance of private investors in delivering the SDGs, and the differences between the various investment organisations. This session also considered the use of financial intermediaries and transparency of the sector, the challenges that women face in accessing private finance, and how investment can tackle climate change and biodiversity loss.
