Developing AI capacity and expertise in UK Defence

Inquiry

In this inquiry, the Sub-Committee examines how the Ministry of Defence (MOD) can meet its aim, set out in the 2022 Defence AI Strategy, of strengthening the defence and security AI ecosystem, at a time when AI has the potential to transform a number of defence activities. The Sub-Committee considers how the MOD can best support the UK defence sector to reap the benefits of this change and champion UK tech to give the UK a competitive edge in AI development.

This inquiry was originally conducted during the 2019 Parliament and was interrupted by the 2024 general election. In November 2024 the new Defence Committee agreed to complete the inquiry.
