Mental health: right care right person

Non-inquiry session

The Committee will examine the way in which police forces respond to calls relating to mental health crises, following the publication of the National Partnership Agreement: Right Care, Right Person. Right Care, Right Person (RCRP) was an approach first developed in Humberside. That National Agreement is a framework to roll out RCRP nationwide. RCRP provides a framework for assisting police with decision-making about when they should be involved in responding to reported incidents involving people with mental health needs. The session will hear from police and health representatives from Humberside and the West Midlands and will explore how RCRP works in practice, the impact of the policy and whether sufficient health and emergency care resources and capacity are available to take on the work previously carried out by the police.
