Parliament refurb: PAC publishes response to Restoration & Renewal scrutiny

6 February 2024

The Public Accounts Committee today publishes responses to questions raised as part of its ongoing scrutiny of the Restoration and Renewal (R&R) of the Palace of Westminster.

The responses follow calls made in November 2023 by the PAC for further clarity around the project proceeding from a 19 October 2023 evidence session exploring its progress.

The PAC’s November correspondence laid out its key concerns on health, safety and security in the project, while urging the House authorities to demonstrate R&R is being run efficiently, at a reasonable pace, and providing value for money for the taxpayer.

In May 2023, the Committee warned of the “real and rising risk” that the Palace of Westminster will be destroyed by a catastrophic event before it is restored.
