Sexism and inequalities in sport

Inquiry

Following earlier sessions on football, timed to coincide with the 2022 men’s World Cup, the Women and Equalities Committee is examining sexism and inequality in sport more widely. A key focus will be on how girls’ and women’s health and physiology – body image, injuries and sports-related illnesses, periods, pregnancy and maternity, and perimenopause and menopause – can act as barriers to participation and elite performance in sport. The Committee will hear evidence from sportswomen, sports scientists/coaches, clinicians, and policy campaigners and consider ways of bringing about positive change. A further session/s will consider how effectively governing bodies are addressing issues of sexism and inequality in their respective sports
