Black history and cultural diversity in the curriculum

Non-inquiry session

The Petitions Committee has recently received a number of petitions relating to Black History and ethnic and cultural diversity in the national curriculum, including “Teach Britain's colonial past as part of the UK's compulsory curriculum”, which has received over 267,000 signatures to date.

Ahead of scheduling a debate on these petitions, the Committee has agreed to work jointly with the Women and Equalities Committee to hear oral evidence on the issues that these petitions raise. The aim is to examine the issues in more detail, raise awareness of the issues within Parliament, and to inform a future petition debate on this subject.
