Investigation into the UK Passport Office

Inquiry

The number of passport applications increased significantly in 2022 after the lifting of COVID-19 international travel restrictions and a lengthy backlog of passport applications has developed, causing delays.

The Committee will question senior officials at the Home Office on

trends in passport applications in the past and since the COVID-19 travel restrictions were lifted. Following an investigation by the National Audit Office the Committee will look at whether the Passport Office has a plan to manage the surge in demand and reduce the backlog and how this is informed by lessons it has learned from responding to the recent surge.

If you have evidence on these issues please submit it here by Sunday 11 December at 18:00.

This inquiry is no longer accepting evidence

The deadline for submissions was 6:00pm on 11 December 2022.
