Delivering nuclear power

Inquiry

Due to rising fuel prices, securing the UK’s energy supply is currently a top priority for the Government and is of great interest to the public. The Government’s Energy Security Strategy, published in April 2022, emphasised that nuclear power would play a key part in supplying the UK with baseload electricity, however there is currently great uncertainty about how quickly new nuclear power plants can be built, when fusion technologies might be available and what the costs of these large infrastructure projects will be.

The Committee will examine the Government’s approach to developing new nuclear power.
