Electronic Monitoring programme

Inquiry

Electronic monitoring (‘tagging”) allows the police, courts, probation, and immigration services to monitor the location and compliance with court orders an offender outside custody’s, and take action as necessary.

HM Prison & Probation Service plans to expand the use of tagging but recently decided to suspend development of a new IT system that would provide a single version of case management records across the bodies involved in supervising electronic monitoring subjects.

The Committee will question the senior responsible officials at MoJ and HMPPS if delivery of the Electronic Monitoring programme has achieved value for money and whether learning is being effectively applied and risks managed in the plans for future expansion.

If you have evidence on these questions please submit it here by 6pm on Monday 15 June.
