MPs hold first session examining sustainability of local journalism

The first session of the Sustainability of local journalism inquiry will explore the challenges faced by local news organisations and how they should be supported to maintain their democratic function.

Purpose of the session
The Committee is likely to explore future business models for local journalism and how Government legislation should ensure that all players in the news ecosystem are operating on a level playing field.
Challenges recruiting and retaining local journalists, as well as relationships with public service broadcasters, are also likely to be discussed.
