The European Agenda on Migration is divided into two parts. The first part of the Agenda outlines immediate action in response to the tragedies in the Mediterranean, while the second sets outs four pillars to manage migration better in the medium and long term.
Six key Immediate Actions:
Saving lives at sea by stepping up search and rescue efforts
Targeting criminal smuggling networks
Relocation of migrants
Resettlement of displayed persons
Working in partnership with third countries
Using EU tools to help frontline Member States
Four pillars for future, long-term action on migration:
Reducing the incentives for irregular migration
Border management
Maintaining a strong common asylum policy
A new policy on legal migration
The EU Home Affairs Sub-Committee will scrutinise the UK Government's response to the Agenda.
