Chair's comment
Frank Field MP said:
“This is an important intervention by Sir Philip Green. Its central message is disturbing and does nothing to change my view of the adequacy or otherwise of pension regulation. The Committee has sent a copy of the letter to the Pensions Regulator. We urgently await their response.”
Pensions Regulator response and Committee requests
The Pensions Regulator has written to the Committee, responding to Arcadia Group's letter received earlier today regarding her evidence in Parliament on Monday.
The Committee will be writing to the Pension Regulator requesting documentation charting all interaction with Arcadia Group and the BHS Pension Trustees over the relevant period, and will be requesting a clarification of why "there was not sufficient information to assess the potential impact on the pension schemes".
The Committee has also now appointed South Square commercial barrister Gabriel Moss QC, and Robin Ellison, Professor of Pensions Law and Economics at Cass Business School, as specialist advisers to the inquiry.
