Accountability of the Bank of England

Inquiry

The Government has put forward proposals that would extend the responsibilities of the Bank of England to include monitoring financial stability and taking action against threats to that stability. This means a much greater and more operational role for the Bank in the financial system.

The Treasury Committee launched a timely inquiry scrutinising the accountability of the Bank of England in light of the Government's proposals.
