Balancing common frameworks

After the UK leaves the EU, it will cease to be part of EU-wide agricultural policy known as the Common Agricultural Policy or CAP. A new UK wide framework agreement will need to be created to manage agricultural policy in the UK and the devolved nations. The Scottish Affairs Committee has been examining the implications of powers returning from Brussels and the future of Scottish agriculture after Brexit. In this final session, the Committee will question the Secretary of State on the UK Government's approach to balancing common frameworks between the UK and devolved Governments with providing flexibility for Scotland's agricultural priorities.

Topics explored

Topics likely to be covered in the session include the funding formula for agricultural support, providing enough labour for Scottish farms – particularly during the harvesting season – and advancing Scottish agriculture through increasing use of innovative technologies.

This is the final session of the Committee's inquiry. In earlier sessions the Committee has heard from academics with expertise in agriculture, farmers and growers, environmental groups, the operators of the UK Government's agricultural seasonal workers pilot scheme and the Scottish Government Minister for the Rural Economy.
