Committee hears from industry representatives on pensions scams

2 October 2020

The Work and Pensions Committee will hear from investment companies and trustee organisations on pensions scams as the inquiry into the pension freedoms and protecting savers continues.

Purpose of the session

The first panel will feature representatives from investment firms and asset managers, before the Committee goes on to hear from organisations providing services to and representing the interests of trustees. Questioning is likely to focus on the role of the industry and trustees in preventing scams. The hearing may also cover whether there is enough support for victims and the role of the various regulators in both tackling scams and providing advice and guidance to prevent them.

The Committee’s inquiry is reviewing the impact of the pension freedoms five years on. After an initial focus on pension scams, it will examine accessing pension savings and saving for later life.
