The National Audit Office’s Estimate

Every year the Public Accounts Committee examines the Estimate for the National Audit Office. The National Audit Office is the UK’s supreme audit authority, responsible for analysing whether Government programmes represent good value for money. The NAO audits all government departments’ and agencies’ financial statements and reports the results to Parliament.

The NAO’s Estimate outlines how much the organisation anticipates spending in the next financial year. The Committee will ask the Comptroller and Auditor General, who heads the NAO, to justify the figures included in the Estimate, including where it allocates money to new areas of work, or critical changes in the organisation.
