Proxy voting: review of pilot arrangements inquiry

Inquiry

Among the issues the Committee would welcome evidence on are the following:

  • The scope and operation of the scheme established under the resolution of the House of 28 January 2019
  • The operation of the temporary standing order providing for the use of proxy votes in divisions of the House
  • The administrative arrangements for the scheme, including the requirement to provide evidence of eligibility
  • How the scheme has worked in practice, including the system of Speaker certification and the practicalities of casting proxy votes in the lobbies

The proxy voting scheme is published here.

The temporary standing order governing proxy voting is published in the current Addendum to Standing Orders here.

NOTE: When it agreed to the pilot, the House directed the Committee to review it within 12 months. In the event of an early general election, the Committee will make recommendations as to the conduct of the review in the new Parliament.
