Minister gives evidence on defending the UK against cyber attacks

A major cyber attack on the UK is a matter of “when, not if” – said Ciaran Martin, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), earlier this year.

Likely topics of discussion

In April, the UK Government released its first ever joint alert with US authorities warning of malicious, state-sponsored attacks targeting government and private-sector organisations, including critical infrastructure providers.

In this evidence session, the Joint Committee takes evidence from the Government on how it supports the CNI sector in defending against, and building resilience to, cyber threats.

  • the scale of the threat facing CNI in the UK;
  • the role of the Government and NCSC in protecting CNI;
