The future of UK Development Cooperation

Inquiry

The Committee agreed to undertake an inquiry into the Future of UK Development Cooperation over a two year period. The inquiry assessed the need for and design of UK development cooperation over the medium to long term.

The International Development Committee launched phase 1 of this inquiry focusing on Development Finance. Several months ago the Committee called for evidence on The Future of UK Development Co-operation, an inquiry that will take place in a number of phases over a two-year period.

Building on the evidence received, the Committee has decided to focus in the first phase of the inquiry on how ODA is spent.

The International Development Committee has completed this inquiry and stated that the focus of UK funded aid programmes should shift away from grants and towards a system of loans and other financial instruments.
