Emergency Services Network: Spring 2020 update

The Emergency Services Network (ESN) is a new communications system for the UK’s blue light services. ESN replaces the current Airwave system.

The Committee’s previous scrutiny of the project led to recommendations that the Home Office reassess its timeline for rolling out the ESN so that the department knows which regions of the country may require an extension of the existing Airwave system. The Committee has also recommended reconsidering identified risks to the project, and the cost implications associated with those risks. The Committee also expressed concerns that the Home Office needed to work better with Transport for London and other metropolitan transport providers to ensure the system was reliable underground.

Due to measures being taken to prevent the spread of coronavirus, or Covid-19, the inquiry of this session was suspended but we intend to return to it, in a different form, in this session. We will provide more details shortly.
