One-off session on the Ebola virus

The Health Committee holds an oral evidence session on the arrangements for dealing with the outbreak of the Ebola virus on Wednesday 22 October 2014 at 2.30pm.

The Committee takes evidence from the following experts, who have specific expertise on the nature of the outbreak and the scale of the public health risk to the UK:

  • Professor Dame Sally Davies, the Chief Medical Officer
  • Dr Paul Cosford, Director for Health Protection and Medical Director, Public Health England
  • Professor Chris Whitty, Chief Scientific Adviser and Director of Research and evidence, Department for International Development,

Issues for consideration include:

  • the actions that the health agencies are taking to safeguard the public and medical staff
  • the process for screening passengers arriving in the UK from at-risk countries
  • and how the UK Government is helping combat the outbreak in West Africa

The Committee received questions from the public via their twitter account under the hashtag #EbolaQuestionsUK, and by email, some of which were put to the panel of experts at Wednesday's meeting. Thank you to all who submitted questions.
