Greenland Sustainable Fisheries Partnership Agreement

European scrutiny

The EU currently has a Sustainable Fisheries Partnership Agreement (SFPA) with the Government of Denmark and the Home Rule Government of Greenland, which allows the EU fleet to fish surplus resources in Greenland’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), in exchange for an EU access fee and EU support for Greenland’s fisheries sector. The five-year Protocol expires on 31 December 2020, so a new Protocol is required to fix fishing opportunities and financial contributions.

We are writing to the Minister to find out whether the Government will seek to establish an equivalent UK-Greenland Agreement, in order to preserve its fishing access to Greenland’s EEZ.
