Opportunity areas: Children and Families Minister Nadhim Zahawi questioned

The Education Committee hears from Nadhim Zahawi MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Children and Families, on the Government's Opportunity Areas (OA) programme.

Purpose of the session
The programme was announced in 2016 with the objective of providing additional support in disadvantaged areas to improve outcomes for young people. It also aims to learn what works in the 12 OA areas and spread effective practice.
The Committee is likely to want to question the Minister on how areas were chosen, funding arrangements and how success is being measured.
Members will also have the opportunity to ask the Regional Schools Commissioner (RSC) for the East of England and North-East London about the involvement in the programme of RSCs.
