The Awards for Valour (Protection) Bill was given its First Reading in the House of Commons on 29 June 2016. It is a Private Member's Bill, sponsored by Gareth Johnson MP, with Second Reading scheduled for Friday 25 November.
The summary of the Bill declares it to be "A Bill to prohibit the wearing or public display, by a person not entitled to do so, of medals or insignia awarded for valour, with the intent to deceive".
The Committee will examine the problem that the Bill seeks to address, the nature and scope of the offences that might be in the Bill, and the wider themes on the incidence and reasons behind the unauthorised use of military decorations.
