Appointment of the Housing Ombudsman

Inquiry

The Housing Ombudsman is responsible for investigating complaints relating to registered housing organisations.

Since 2008 departmental select committees have had a formal role in the appointment process of some designated public posts which fall under the remit of their respective Government departments. After the current Housing Ombudsman, Dr Mike Biles, left his post at the beginning of November 2014, the Government asked the Committee to give its view on the suitability of the Government’s preferred candidate to replace him.

The Committee will hold a pre-appointment hearing with the Secretary of State’s preferred candidate for the post on Tuesday 16 December.
