Impact of Covid-19 on policing examined

The Home Affairs Committee takes evidence on the impact of Covid-19 on policing on Wednesday 21 October in a session with representatives from the National Police Chiefs’ Council, Gwent Police and Lancashire Constabulary.

The session will provide an update on a range of issues facing policing during the Covid-19 pandemic. This will include the challenges faced in policing 'local lockdowns' and the newly adopted three tier system, as well as differences in approach taken by different police forces to enforce the rules.

The Committee will investigate the impact of Covid-19 on wider policing, such as the availability of officers, and the challenges of combatting a feared increase in levels of domestic abuse.

It will also look at the quality of support provided to frontline police staff, both in carrying out their duties and in coping with the increased demands placed on them.
