Purpose of the session

From 8 June, the UK has introduced a 14-day quarantine for individuals for international travellers entering the country. The quarantine rules are stricter than applied during lockdown, with individuals proscribed from shopping for basic goods or exercising outside. Enforcement will be carried out through 'spot checks' by police officers at the designated addresses, with breaches liable for a fine of up to £1000.

The evidence session will examine the effectiveness of quarantine measures across the globe during the Covid-19 crisis, and compare these approaches to that taken by the UK Government. It will investigate how scientific advice has informed these approaches and the development of the UK's own quarantine policy.
