The session will include two panels. The first, focusing on the trade in services, will explore how far the free trade agreement (FTA) represents a good deal for UK services providers. Topics may include the outlook for financial services as a result of the deal, any potential changes to the recognition of professional qualifications, and practicalities around temporary entry for business people and youth mobility between the two countries.

The second panel will focus on trade in manufactured goods, looking at what effect the provisions of the FTA will have on UK goods exports to New Zealand. MPs are likely to seek witnesses’ views on tariffs, rules of origin for goods, and whether the deal will unlock technical barriers to trade.

Total trade between the UK and New Zealand was worth £2.5 billion in the 2020-21 financial year, according to the Department for International Trade.
