Purpose of the session
The session will investigate progress on implementing racial equality policies as well as concerns with schooling and housing for refugees and Irish Travellers. A previous session of the Committee’s inquiry heard how Syrian refugees in Northern Ireland had been placed in “poor housing stock” and are “trapped within a system of poverty and trauma” due to high rents.
The head of Barnardo’s NI Michele Janes will also give evidence on minority ethnic and migrant children’s experiences in education and schools. Previous sessions of this inquiry focused on the experiences of healthcare, policing and hate crime.
