Are the NI Executive and Civil Service serious about racial equality?

The Head of the NI Executive’s Racial Equality Unit will offer his views on Stormont’s attitudes to issues of racial equality when he gives evidence in a personal capacity to the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee tomorrow.

In written evidence to the Committee published today, Ken Fraser calls into question the Executive Office’s commitment to tackling racial inequality in Northern Ireland. He adds that the Executive Office and the Northern Ireland Civil Service have not learned the lessons from the RHI scandal to ensure that people with the appropriate knowledge and experience are in the relevant policy-making roles.

The Committee is currently conducting an inquiry into the experiences of minority ethnic and migrant people in Northern Ireland for which this is likely to be the final evidence session.
