Purpose of the session
Mr King leads the body that hears complaints from members of the public about the range of services provided by local authorities in England, as well as adult social care services that are registered with the Care Quality Commission.
The cross-party group of MPs will question the Ombudsman on a range of issues that were highlighted in his organisation’s Triennial Review, published in December.
The Committee is likely to ask how the Ombudsman has managed to process complaints following its temporary suspension of handling complaints at the beginning of the pandemic, and about what lessons were learned over the last two years.
MPs are also likely to ask about the relationship between funding for local government and social care, and the way complaints are handled by local authorities before they are escalated to the Ombudsman.
There may also be questions about the Ombudsman’s proposal that the Government should introduce a single public services ombudsman.
