Immigration Minister quizzed on Government response to labour shortages

The session is likely to focus on allegations from some parts of the sector that the Government’s response to the labour shortages has been ‘too little, too late.’ The Committee is likely to seek an update on the numbers of additional visas granted for foreign poultry workers, HGV drivers and pork butchers, as well as the cost and challenges business have faced in accessing the temporary short-term visa scheme.

MPs may also explore the future of the Seasonal Workers Pilot scheme, and the need for the Government to develop a longer term labour market strategy.
