Lords Committee considers two new EU border management systems

The Justice and Home Affairs Committee seeks evidence from interested parties on the Entry/Exit System (EES) and the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS), two new EU border management systems that will affect UK citizens and business from 2022.

Meeting details

At 10:30am: Oral evidence
Inquiry ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System)
Company Secretary and Head of EU Exit at Dover Harbour Board
Director of Public Affairs at Getlink
Strategy Director and Company Secretary at Eurostar

Witnesses will discuss whether and how these two systems will have an impact in the UK and for UK citizens. The Committee will inquire about potential disruption and ways of mitigating it. Consideration will be given to ways of raising public awareness of these two systems.

Possible questions

  • In geographic terms, where will the two systems have an operational impact?
  • What changes will be required to accommodate the launch of the two systems - and what for?
  • What disruption, if any, are you expecting as a result of the launch of the two systems? How does it compare with disruptions in recent years?
  • How best could such disruption be mitigated?
  • How much awareness is there of the two systems and of the consequences they may have? Whose responsibility do you think it is to raise awareness and how?
