The International Development Committee has invited a panel of experts on the issue of nutrition to inform its work ahead of an international summit on the subject to be held in Japan in December.
Meeting details
Purpose of the session
According to United Nations figures, nearly 9 per cent of the global population – some 690 million people – are hungry.
The Committee is keen to understand the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on global nutrition levels and the role of UK development aid in tackling malnutrition – including the impact of recent cuts to the UK aid budget.
MPs on the Committee will solicit the witnesses’ views on what the priorities should be for the December 2021 Tokyo Nutrition for Growth Summit - a global summit with the aim of generating pledges and commitments from donors to combat malnutrition.
