Committee hears from energy experts on Ofgem and net zero

The Industry and Regulators Committee will question former advisers, civil servants and regulators in the energy sector to discuss the role of Ofgem in the energy sector’s transition to net zero carbon emissions. The Committee will discuss whether current policies are sufficient to reach a net zero energy system, whether the roles of the Government, Ofgem and other energy sector bodies are sufficiently clear and distinct, and how the relationship between energy suppliers and consumers might change in future.

Possible questions include:

  • Is there a clear policy framework in place to support the objective of a net zero energy system?
  • Is there enough coordination within the public sector on net zero policies and, if not, is a coordinating body needed?
  • How will the consumer experience change as part of the net zero transition and are consumers prepared for this?
  • Is Ofgem allowing energy companies to invest sufficiently in the transition to net zero?
