The newly formed Justice and Home Affairs Committee takes evidence from Professor Sylvie Delacroix, Professor Carole McCartney, and Professor Charles Raab on the ethics and law of new technologies for law enforcement

The Justice and Home Affairs Committee is likely to launch an inquiry into the use of new technologies prior to the summer recess. This public evidence session is an introduction to this topic and associated ethical and legal issues.

Possible questions

The public evidence session will concentrate on the law and ethics of new technologies for law enforcement. Witnesses will be invited to discuss:

  • the types of new technologies being used in law enforcement settings
  • potential benefits associated with such technologies
  • ethical challenges
  • current legal frameworks
  • issues of trust in these technologies and in the rule of law
  • monitoring and oversight of these technologies
