State of the Fire and Rescue Services - MPs explore preparedness to deal with wildfires, flooding and major incidents
On Tuesday, the Housing, the Housing, Communities and Local Government (HCLG) Committee will hold a one-off evidence session on the current state of fire and rescue services (FRS) in England to examine their preparedness to respond to climate-related risks, such as wildfires and flooding, and other threats facing the country.
Following Prime Minister's wildfire summit today, MPs will hear directly from chief fire officers across England, including fire service leaders from the West Midlands and Suffolk who responded to major wildfires in Stourbridge and Dunwich Heath this summer.
The cross-party committee is expected to ask about the arrangements the Government needs to put in place to ensure fire services are better equipped to cope as drier summers increase the potential for wildfires across the country.
Meeting details
MPs are also likely to examine how the demands on fire and rescue services are changing from climate change and other threats the country faces and the implication this has for how the service is run.
Witnesses include the fire and rescue inspectorate, the Fire Brigades Union and the representatives of elected fire and rescue authorities. Full witness list included below.
