Background

The Committee is investigating the implementation and impact of the OSA to assess whether it has been effective in making people in the UK safer online.

In this session, the Committee examines progress made in children’s online safety since the OSA was introduced, how effectively it is being enforced, and how its requirements would interact with the proposed social media ban for under 16s.

Possible areas for discussion

Possible areas for discussion with witnesses include:

  • how the risks faced by children online have changed since the passing of the OSA;
  • how far online services have changed their products in response to the OSA;
  • whether Ofcom has the powers it needs to enforce the OSA, and whether it is using those powers effectively; and
  • the potential implications that restricting under 16s from accessing social media platforms could have for the delivery of the OSA regime.
