Institute for Government to give views on impact of a mission-led government
Next Tuesday morning, the Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee (PACAC) will continue its inquiry looking at the impact and delivery of a mission-led government.
MPs will question the Institute for Government's (IfG) Associate Director, Hannah Keenan, and Executive Director, Alex Thomas. The IfG is a think tank focused on promoting effective government, and it produces an annual report covering the developments of the Civil Service and government over the preceding year.
Meeting details
Previously, the committee heard from Darren Jones MP, former Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister, who highlighted the difficulties of cross-departmental collaboration. In his evidence, Mr Jones highlighted instances when he felt some officials may have been deliberately resisting efforts to prioritise work which fell within the government’s ‘missions’.
The purpose of next week’s session is to understand the IfG’s view on the mechanisms and processes which exist within the Civil Service which may enable or prevent the Government's missions being delivered.
The committee is also likely to question witnesses on the impact of missions on budgets and spending.
