Background
The Committee is investigating the implementation and impact of the OSA to assess whether it has been effective in making people in the UK safer online.
Ofcom has faced criticism for taking a “slow” and “reactive” approach in its delivery of the Act to date.
Possible areas for discussion
Possible areas for discussion with witnesses include:
- When Ofcom expects the parts of the OSA which have not yet been implemented to be fully operational;
- Whether the OSA has made children and adults in the UK safer online, based on Ofcom’s evidence;
- How Ofcom’s delivery of the new regime has given effect to the safety-by-design principles set out in the OSA;
- The impact of Ofcom’s enforcement activity to date; and
- Whether changes to the OSA’s existing provisions are needed to improve their effectiveness.
