MPs on the Education Committee will explore the impact that artificial intelligence (AI) and educational technology (EdTech) is having on teachers and the teaching profession.

While the government has claimed that AI could reduce teacher workload by reducing the burden of routine tasks such as planning and marking, some in the profession are concerned that relying on AI tools could reduce teachers’ autonomy and expertise.
During the session, MPs will ask teaching experts and teaching union leaders about the future role of teaching as AI use expands, the role of AI in recruiting and retaining teachers, and how AI might impact relationships between teachers and their pupils.
The session will also explore the impact that AI is having on school assessment. MPs are likely to ask about how the assessment system should evolve to respond to AI, and about challenges such as students misusing AI.
