Justice and Home Affairs Committee launches first evidence session of new inquiry into support for jurors
On Wednesday 2 September the Committee will hear from Dr Hannah Fawcett, Senior Lecturer in Psychology, Manchester Metropolitan University and Dr Matt Brooks, Senior Lecturer in Forensic Psychology, Manchester Metropolitan University.
Purpose
This is the first evidence session of the Committee’s new inquiry into support for jurors. Both academics have written extensively on the impact on, and support for, jurors. The session will cover juror wellbeing, trauma, and resilience, as well as support available to jurors who may be affected by the trial process.

- How jury service affects people, what support is available and how often it is taken up
- The information provided to jurors before, during, and after their service
- How the rules around discussing details of trials affect jurors and what support is available to them
- Whether responsibility for juror wellbeing sits at individual or state level and what recommendations the committee should consider making to the Government
