Jonathan Haskel’s nomination as Chair of the OBR to be scrutinised by the Treasury Committee
The Treasury Committee will hold a pre-appointment hearing with the government’s preferred candidate for Chair of the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR), Jonathan Haskel.

The Budget Responsibility and National Audit Act 2011 gives the Treasury Select Committee a lock on both the appointment and termination of any member of the Budget Responsibility Committee, including the Chair of the OBR.
Jonathan Haskel’s appointment was announced by the Treasury in June.
MPs will seek to determine whether Professor Haskel has the required appropriate professional competence and personal independence for the role.
A questionnaire filled out by Professor Haskel will be published shortly after the hearing commences.
The Committee will publish a report following the session with its decision on whether its Members consent to the appointment or they do not.
